What the Scottish Tea Cosy Festival Is All About
The Scottish Tea Cosy Festival is a craft event to be held in 2027 in Wigtown, Galloway in the local community arts venue, The Merse. Founded by self-confessed tea jennies Suzy and Dawn, the Festival celebrates that humble but glorious item – the tea cosy.
The inaugural Festival takes place on Saturday, 22nd May 2027, the day before National Tea Cosy Day. Our plan is to hold the Festival annually on the first Saturday before National Tea Cosy Day, which falls on 23rd May each yarn. We hope next year is the first of many Festivals, but for that we need you!
Makers from Scotland and around the world are invited to create handmade tea cosies in any style or technique, including knitting, crochet, sewing, weaving and felting. All entered tea cosies are displayed in a judged exhibition with prizes awarded for creativity, craftsmanship and originality.
After judging, every tea cosy entered for judging will be auctioned at our afternoon tea to raise money for charity, making the Festival both a community celebration and a fundraising event. And also the chance for a brew!
The Festival aims to promote traditional crafts, encourage participation from all ages and skill levels, and welcome international contributions to support a good cause.
